The Upper Uco Valley, one of the most prestigious areas for the planting of Malbec in Argentina and the challenge of a great Chilean winemaker: to obtain one of the top Malbec in the country.

Viña Santa Carolina, with its vast experience and history in the wine industry, was the first Chilean winery that decided to invest in Argentina by purchasing 900 hectares in the prestigious Uco Valley, Mendoza, which were planted with a selection of traditional noble vines, including Malbec.

Gonzalo Bertelsen, an ambitious young winemaker graduated as an agronomist specialized in Viticulture and Enology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, began working as a winemaker for TerraMater and Caliterra (Chile) and in 2006 began a Masters degree in Oenology at The University of Adelaide, Australia, graduating in 2007.

After showing his leadership and skills in the wineries above, Gonzalo decided to travel the world with his wife Constanza, visit new countries, cultures, as well as demonstrate his knowledge about wine, alternating harvests with France (Bordeaux, Languedoc Roussillon) Spain (Campo de Borja), USA (Napa Valley), Australia (Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale) and Argentina.Finished his long journey through the most prestigious wine regions of the world and  with extensive expertise in the international wine market, Gonzalo decided to settle in Mendoza, Argentina, where he could get to achieve his primary objective: to find the best terroir for producing one of the top Malbec of Argentina.

Today, Gonzalo manages Finca el Origen, a winery in Mendoza, a member of the Chilean group Viña Santa Carolina, born in the late '90s. with a wide proposal of wines sold since 2002 and pays tribute to the ancient origins of the Andes region of the Uco Valley, where vineyards are located over 1000 meters above the sea level.

A small winery that went from an annual production of 80,000 liters in 2005 to produce 1.5 million liters today. Growing at a fast pace, focused on the production of premium quality wines with a strong focus on the "terroir".

Gonzalo, together with the passionate team of Finca el Origen, has managed to obtain a high quality Malbec, being recognized and recommended by prestigious international journals:90 points "The Wine Advocate" / 93 points "Wine & Spirits" / 91 points "Wine Enthusiast" / 89 points "Wine Spectator" among others ...Gonzalo Bertelsen as a Chilean/Argentine winemaker, is sure that the quality of our wines begins in the vineyard.

Thanks to Finca el Origen`s terroir in the Uco Valley and hand in hand with an excellent team of dedicated and hardworking people, "Single Vineyard" wines of an excellent quality can be achieved, which represent, in its elegance and complexity, the Argentines, with a unique style of new World wines, and with a perfect balance between fruit, oak and concentration.
